future takamba dvd promo

futuretakamba_promoI just returned from festival sur le niger where I went together with the folks of Future Takamba. FT is a multimedia experiment of DJ/producer mps Pilot, VJ Lotte de Man, the traditional takamba band Super 11 from the region of Gao in Mali and a bit of Detour on the conceptual and visual side. It turned out to be a total, full-power, hit-and-run Mali music experience which left me a bit confusioned. But don’t get me wrong, that’s how the project was meant to be. Check it out here.

smileI’ve been working recently with al Jazeera’s live streaming thumbnail somewhere on my screen, being quite interested in the well-being of the people on Tahrir square. Can’t help remembering the month Nina and me spent in Caïro a couple of years ago. We made this picture there, grafitti on a wall. I guess today is the day to repost the picture. And for those who know it all, I kinda liked this article: (Dutch only)

alexanderfielden_identity1The fact that you haven’t been hearing from us lately doesn’t mean we haven’t been up to something. In fact, we’ve been so busy that we haven’t been able in any way to update our portfolio, so we’ll take it in steps. First things first, so let me introduce to you wandering wonderful shoedesigner Alexander Fielden. Besides signing for the identity of his first collection, which is made with the same love and tactility as his shoes, we took care of his website www.alexanderfielden.com, where he writes: ‘Seekers of the wanderer collection are open minded travellers, forging their own paths through life and it’s authenticities, open to worldly imperfections thrown up to them through the threads of time.’ -There is nothing left for us than to agree. Check it out.

mehman

oasis carpet

oasis-carpet2This poster we made during our travels in central Iran. It’s our interpretation of the famous Persian carpets (yes, we’re fans and are lucky to live on a couple of beautiful Bachtiari flat woven kilims). It’s folded to the size of a postcard and our friend Babak, owner of this very carpet store, uses them as business cards. Word from Iran is that he’s selling a lot more carpets lately…

van bangladesh naar bosnië

August 27th, 2009 § 0 comments § permalink

Not so long ago Detour started as a traveling project. It took us a little over two years to get all the way overland and sea from Bangladesh as furthest landmark to the east back to the Netherlands, through Afghanistan and Iran via the Arabian Peninsula and east Africa to Israël and the occupied Palestinian territories. This is the last week of our photography exposition in the city hall of Utrecht, NL. Besides photography we show printed matter we made during our travels.
Stadhuis Utrecht, Korte Minrebroederstraat 2. monday to friday 9:00 – 17:30
