Vorige week woensdag vond de boekpresentatie plaats van het boek “mehman” wat gast betekent in Farsi. Het boek is in een beperkte oplage (65 exemplaren) verschenen en gemaakt door eerstejaars studenten van de HKU. Wij ontvingen een uitnodiging van Albert Hennipman van de Ruimte ontwerpers om een bijdrage te leveren aan het project dat als overkoepelend thema reizen had. Uiteindelijk was de verschijningsvorm een in vilt opgerold boek, samengebonden in verzaagde delen van de houtsnedes die werden gebruikt voor het binnenwerk van het boek. Tjokvol prachtige letterbeelden. Joppe van Dijk, één van de studenten maakte deze video welke een sfeerbeeld schetst van de totstandkoming van het boek. Fotografie door de Ruimte ontwerpers.

We were asked by the Utrecht school of the Arts (hku) to design an advertisement for the Heart & Society magazine which promotes the post-graduate programmes offered by the academy. Two days only it took from making the concept to having the actual image produced. 1160 Post-its were involved. I think we’ll leave our door like this for a couple days more, until post-it autumn has fully set in…

In opdracht van xpertcmkb/hku ontwierpen wij dit beeld ter aankondiging van een werkconferentie op 9 april 2010. Presentator Tarik Yousif neemt de ruimte voor creativiteit in de regio Utrecht onder de loep. Kunstenaars&CO verzorgt een co-creatie sessie waarbij je alles te weten kan komen over het gezamenlijk kopen van een pand. In kleine groepen onderzoeken we verschillende vraagstukken rondom ruimte voor creativiteit. Debatcentrum Tumult zal de middag afsluiten met een debat waarbij centraal staat op welke manier Utrecht creativiteit de ruimte zou moeten geven. Out of the box.

Wednesday 25th of March we gave a lecture on graphic design, traveling, semiotics, passion and a combination of the previously mentioned aspects at the Utrecht School of the Arts in their Studium Generale series. Excited about the fact to see a poster designed by a student of the HKU announcing our presence, it was the first time we actually made an (almost) chronological story about our two years+ on the road. Although it was obviously inspiring for at least some people, it was even more surprising for us to look back in retrospect and see what impact it had on the life we are living now and how it shaped our dreams. So for the last time I’ll quote Mark Twain: ‘Twenty years from now you’ll be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.’
